Pamela Yee has been an Abbotsford resident since 2015 and has lived in the Lower Mainland since 1987 when her family immigrated from Brunei. Having been raised in a conservative, close-knit family, Pamela believes that strong family units and strong school communities are interrelated. With her own 4-year-old daughter scheduled to start Kindergarten in the 2027-28 school year, Pamela has a personal investment in how the Abbotsford School District (No. 34) is governed.
Pamela is passionate about education and has worked with students in the public and private sectors for over 20 years. She is a proud SFU graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in French. She also earned a Bachelor of Education, minoring in Curriculum and Instruction, after completing SFU's Professional Development Program (PDP). Following graduation, Pamela taught in China for three years at a B.C.-accredited school, where she used the B.C. curriculum to teach foreign national students at the elementary school level. She returned to Canada in 2010 and taught at the elementary and middle school levels in the Coquitlam School District (No. 43) until early 2017.
Currently, Pamela serves as a Chief Instructor and Manager at a Kumon Math and Reading Learning Centre in Coquitlam. Since 2001, she has supported numerous families and taught over 2000 students using the Kumon curriculum. In 2014, Pamela undertook a managerial role, where she continues to work directly with students while also handling administrative duties.
Outside of the workplace she enjoys reality television and true crime documentaries, spending time with family and sampling new foods. Her husband works locally and is what drew her to Abbotsford. She quickly fell in love with the city and still tolerates her husband.
Her first-hand experience gives Pamela the knowledge and expertise to understand the current climate for teachers, parents and students in the Abbotsford School District. Pamela is goal-oriented and aims to advocate for each community member and resident in her role as an Abbotsford School Board Trustee. Through collaboration, clear and excellent communication, transparency, and the ability to see all sides of every argument, Pamela is a strong leader seeking your support in the upcoming election.
